20 Fabulous Fall (Not Specifically Thanksgiving or Halloween) Mantels

20 fall not thanksgiving or halloween mantels
20 Beautiful mantels for fall that are not thanksgiving or halloween

I love fun holiday mantels, but I know not everyone has time to change out their theme every few weeks.  In the early fall, you can put up an autumn inspired mantelscape and it can last all the way until Christmas as long as you don't focus on a Thanksgiving or Halloween theme.

So today I have 20 gorgeous mantel ideas that are GENERIC fall, and NOT a more specific holiday.  No turkeys, no spiderwebs no "Give Thanks" wording.    Just leaves and pumpkins and all around prettiness.
We'll kick it off with Adventure's in Decorating's fall mantel, that was so gorgeous, even Better Homes and Gardens had to feature it:

Oversized Maple Leaf Silhouette From Reclaimed Wood

Oversized wooden leaf cuttoutReclaimed Lumber Leaf Silhouette SignI’m back with another fall sign project made of “reclaimed” lumber.  I will admit I’m using the term ‘reclaimed’ loosely, because this project could be made from old barn wood, or pallet wood or any old lumber, but mine is actually made from some fence boards I got in the cull lumber section of the hardware store.
Oversized wooden leaf cuttoutI love using this type of wood since they are cheap, and I don’t have to spend hours taking apart pallets, pus they give the look of old wood.

Scrabble Tile LOVE YOU Valentine's Mantel

Plywood Scrabble TilesOversized Scrabble tiles made from plywood and vinyl are a great way to get custom word art. I used this 'Love You' version on my Valentine's Day Mantel
I am getting into the Valentine’s Day spirit and I wanted to do a fun woodworking project for my mantel.  I didn’t want to do any other pallet wood sign project, and I am starting to feel like Marquee lights are played out.. so I went for something a little more whimsical.  Oversized Game Pieces!
Pink lanterns and scrabble letter mantel
Making them was so easy.. I could whip up an entire games worth in no time.  I used my vinyl cutting machine to make the letters, but you could hand letter them in sharpie or even just cut the letters out by hand, since they are so simple.

Rustic Lodge Inspired Holiday Home Tour

Rustic Lodge Style Holiday Home Tour Rustic and Vintage with a touch of the outdoors I love it
Welcome to part two of my holiday home tour.  Today I’m sharing my family room and kitchen with you.  I took inspiration from that rustic mountain lodge feel of traditional ski chalets and mountain homes. Since it doesn’t really get cold here in California, I wanted the space to remind me of the cool crisp woods up in the mountains. All the rustic elements and natural colors make it feel extra cozy!

If you missed the first half of my home tour, it is DRAMATICALLY different than that space which featured traditional Victorian style Christmas decor.

Traditional Victorian Holiday Home Tour: Living and Dining Rooms

Traditional Victorian Holiday Home Tour
This year I couldn’t decide between two dramatically different styles of Christmas decor, so instead of giving one up, I decided I would just use both.  Today I’m going to share my living room and dining room, which are decorated in the over the top gold gilded style of the Victorian age.

Spring Easter Egg Mantel

Here comes peter cottontail bunny mantel
Nothing like the last minute to finally put up my Easter mantel!  Well, honestly I've actually have had it up (mostly) for a while now, but finally got around to photographing it today.

Pottery Barn Inspired Gold Glittered Easter Banner

I thought it was about time to decorate my mantel for Easter and so I was on the hunt for inspiration on the internet.  I found this cute banner on Pinterest and immediately fell in love with it.

You can find the original at Pottery Barn for $20, but there was really nothing to it.  It was only made of cardstock and glitter.. I was pretty sure I could come up with my own version, and that is just what I did.

Here is mine (which I think I nailed:)

California Republic Flag Inspired Sign (And A California History Lesson)

California Republic Wooden Sign over Fireplace

So, this project has a personal and (relatively) interesting backstory.. especially if you are a history buff.   It all started when I sat though a FANTASTIC California State History presentation for my 4th grader’s class. (Seriously.. if you are a parent or teacher in California you need to look into the California Weekly Explorer Program for your school!)   Being relatively new residents to the State of California I didn’t know much about California state history and so the story of the how the current state flag came into being was new to me!

What I learned (in a nut shell and told in a much less amusing way:)

Fireplace Makeover Using Beadboard Wallpaper

Fireplace update with paint and molding. It looks like custom built ins now! Plus she used beadboard textured wallpaper as an alternative to real beadboard. It is so fast, so easy and a lot less expensive.
I am finally tackling a project that has been on my “to do” list for months, and now that it is done, I’m kicking myself I didn’t do it sooner.. Since it LITERALLY took me less than 15 minutes start to finish.   I added beadboard paneling above my fireplace mantel shelf  to give the whole thing a more custom ‘built in’ look.

To appreciate the full transformation of these built ins, you first need to see how they looked when we bought the place:

They were pretty awful.  The oak, the brass on the fireplace screen, the odd floating mantel shelf.

Traditional Christmas Mantel Featuring Lighted Santa Sleigh Sign

Chistmas Mantel featuring lighted Santa and Reindeer Sleigh Reclaimed Wood Sign
Even though I've already shared my holiday home tour last week,  you may have noticed I only gave a tiny glimpse of my (at that time, unfinished) Christmas mantel. I have been sitting on this post for a while because I was invited by Jen Woodhouse to be part of this year's “Deck the Halls DIY-Style” blog hop.  I have joined with 17 other bloggers featuring great holiday decor with a DIY spin.  (All their links are at the bottom of this post!)

How to Stencil & Distress A Wooden Sign (And My Halloween Mantel)

How to distress and stencil wooden signs
I finally got my halloween mantel up today.  Originally I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to use as the main focal point.. I knew I wanted it to be be orange and black, but I didn’t have anything of a large enough scale to be the big “wow” factor.   So I knew it was time to create a large wooden sign.

You can see it here in the final halloween mantelscape: Orange and black halloween mantel 2015
I wanted it to look old and distressed, and so I used the wood glue crackle effect I’ve used in other projects:

My Orange, Red, and Gold Fall Mantel

A gorgeous fall mantel in oranges and reds with accent pops of silver and black. I love how the wreath is hung off the front of the mantel shelf!
Today is the first day of FALL!! Can you even believe it?  Since it was 104 degrees here yesterday I have to say it doesn’t really feel like it, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to celebrate!  I actually decorated my mantel a while back, but of course never got around to photographing or posting about it.

Patriotic Red White and Blue Mantel (Behind the Scenes)

I am so antsy for summer to start that I decided to put up my Fourth of July mantel already.  If you are a regular reader you know I am pretty hard core about changing out my mantels for the different seasons.  People often ask me where I get the ideas or how long it takes me to them up and so today I thought I'd show you what actually goes on behind the scenes of a mantel design.

I actually made a time lapse movie of the actual assembly of this year's mantel from start to finish! Even though the actual process took me a little less than 2 hours, I've condensed it down to about 1 minute.

Memorial Day Mantel Inspiration!

You know me.. I’m am a little bit OBSESSED with seasonal mantels and today I’m brainstorming for Memorial day.

Last June I also rounded up these 15 Patriotic Mantels if a dozen isn’t enough:

This year I’m thinking of using my paper straw American Flag, and I’ll probably create another reclaimed wood sign (since I seem to be a one trick pony!)

I have used this Pottery Barn Knock-Off Beadboard version for a while now, and it is time to change it up!

Most people make flags, but I want something different.  I am loving this star artwork from Sweet Rose Studio:
Patriotic Entry Way with USA Pallet Art from Sweet Rose Studio 1
And Mine for Making incorporated chalkboard paint into hers (which is currently my Siren’s song) so of course I love it:

Lastly, I know I said “no flags” but this etsy listing is so fabulous I may ignore my own rule.

I'd love to hear any ideas you have!

Valentine's Day Mantel 2015

Valentines mantel
I am squeezing in under the wire here.. A week from tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and I just now getting my mantel finished.  Granted, I’ve had all the components for they baby done for weeks now, but you know how that is.. the room was always too messy to actually photograph it!   #keepingitrealwithkimsix

Brown and Red Rustic Reindeer Mantel

Rustic christmas mantel
As promised, I am sharing my more rustic Christmas mantel.  I normally don’t post on Sundays but there are some HUGE things coming up next week (seriously, come back tomorrow** and check out the awesomeness!) and so I didn’t want to delay getting this post out.

Wood Slice Deer Head Silhouette Pallet Art

Pallet and wood deer silhouetteToday is one of those posts that I am just so excited about, I am sharing it with you less than 12 hours after I finished it.  I just can’t hold out!

Now that my first Christmas mantel is complete, I am moving on to the other side of the fireplace.  Since I just updated it with stacked stone, I wanted a really rustic look (similar to last year) and so I knew I was going to make another one of my (infamous) pallet signs.

Assembly was exactly like the previous versions, and once again I stained the wood dark brown so the design would show up well.
How to make pallet wood art
So far I’ve only stenciled and painted the previous designs so this time I wanted to do something more dimensional.  I had a couple bags of wood slice vase filler left over from my dollar store wood slice pumpkin project and I thought they would be easy to work with.

Christmas Mantel: The Stars Are Brightly Shining

Christmas mantel with stars in gold silver and red. BEAUTIFUL!My first Christmas Mantel of the season is finally complete!  This year I wanted to do a design that was a little more modern and stream lined vs my typically more rustic or kid friendly versions.  I decided on highly graphic stars and I love how they stand out.
Star christmas mantelI countered the non-traditional star grouping with the line “The Stars Are Brightly Shining” from the Christmas Hymn “O Holy Night."
