Breakfast Bird Nests

Hey y'all!  Mandee from The Kitchen Wife here, and recently I hosted three of the most amazing little people on the planet for an Easter slumber party, my two nieces and my nephew.   One thing they have come to expect when they visit is fun food.  This day DID NOT disappoint.  We make these adorable Breakfast Bird Nest.
The finished breakfast bird nests, on a white plate, with the title above.

With only a few ingredients, this simple recipe is perfect for making memories in the kitchen with your little ones, and I can't wait to share with you.

20 Ways To Use Up Hard Boiled Eggs

20 Ways to eat hard boiled eggs
I am in that post Easter haze.  Since Easter came early this year I felt like everything was really rushed.  This weekend we tried to cram in all our typical Easter activities (dying eggs, doing an egg hunt, hiding the baskets..) and it was such a whirlwind.

And, as it does every year, Easter leaves in it’s wake a plethora of hard boiled eggs I need to figure out how to use up.  As the kids get bigger, they each get more involved in decorating eggs, and so we are using more and more every year.  Which means the good old stand by of egg salad and deviled eggs isn’t going to be enough.

I need MORE WAYS TO USE UP HARD BOILED EGGS!
So I did my research.. and hunted down some of the most popular ways people use hard boiled eggs.  The interesting part is that many of these dishes are international and so they add whole new flavor profiles to the lowly hard boiled egg.  And granted, some may not be for everyone (I know I’m not going to make Pickled Eggs) but it does demonstrate the versatility and different palate of people world wide!

35 Ways to Repurpose Cribs (and Parts of Cribs)

35 Unique Repurposing Ideas for Old Cribs

My toddler is starting to get a little too big for his crib and I’m really considering my options on what to do next.   I am on the fence about if I should just get rid of it or convert it to something else.   You may have seen the crib before if you were around during my Nursery Reveal a few years back. (Boy how times flies!)
The crib itself is a convertible style and with the older girls we have used it as a ‘day bed/toddler bed’ by taking off the front rail.  It also converts to a full size twin bed (using the back as a headboard) but we have never used it that way.

It is actually quite beat up.  Three kids have used it and it has been in assembled and reassembled more than 8 times with all the moves we have gone through. I’m just not sure I want to keep using it as a bed.  Here it was back when my youngest daughter used it in the Boston Money Pit:

Which brings me to today’s post.  I was looking around for ideas on what I could do with an old crib.  I considered donating it, but it was formerly a drop-side crib (although we have the conversion kit so it no longer drops) but because of the liability very few charities even accept it.

So that left me with the idea of repurposing it.  I have seen so many crib upcycles I ended up on an hours long tour of the internet getting inspired. I actually haven’t decided exactly what I will do with it, but I did decide I wanted to share some of the most unique and interesting ideas I found.

I thought I would break the list down by which parts of the crib were actually used for the projects (since not all projects used all the parts!) That division is also nice if you ever find parts of a crib or different styles of crib (for example.. our crib doesn’t come with a set of springs, it has an MDF bottom.. so I couldn’t necessarily use all the ideas that are out there..)

Enjoy the list, I’d love for you to leave me a quick comment with your favorite!

Stenciled and Embroidered Pillow

Hello again from Steph @ The Silly Pearl! I have an easy tutorial today to make a stenciled and embroidered pillow. I really had fun creating this pillow, with all of the colors and patterns, and it was so quick to make as well. Here's the how-to!

Scrap Wood Chevron Easter Egg

Chevron Easter Egg from Scrap Wood. An easy DIY project to get rid of those short board scraps
I’m so happy to once again be participating in the Power Tool challenge hosted by Wendi of H2O Bungalow.  This month the theme was “Spring” and so I took this opportunity to use some power tools to create an oversized Easter Egg made out of nothing but wood scraps leftover from other projects.

The other entries in the challenge this month are also fantastic so make sure you head down to the bottom of the post to see them all!

Come Build Along With Me (And Home Depot!)

I have some super FUN news to share today.  If you read my blog you know my heart is near and dear to a certain big orange home improvement store.  (In fact I’m there so often they know me by name!)

I’m a very loyal customer to The Home Depot and they are my number one go to place when it comes to DIY projects.   But they are more than just a store.
Home depot 1
Every month my kids participate in the Home Depot kid’s workshop and they get to build a simple woodworking project that gives the the chance to work with their hands.
Home depot 2
The older girls have gone dozens of times, and last month the baby participated in his first build, a little toy wagon. It was so cute!

But did you know that Home Depot offers workshops for adults too?  I have attended quite a few of the Do it Herself workshops (that is where I learned the tricks to install crown molding!) and Do It Yourself workshops too.  They are all great programs that give you a taste of a project so that it seems so much less intimidating.  And they aren’t all building projects, I’ve learned how to tile and install a faucet via workshops.   There is something for every experience level and interest.

So imagine how excited I was when one of my favorite bloggers, Cristina from Remodelando La Casa, invited me to join this month’s DIY Workshop online and give this month’s project my own spin! (WHAT?!? SERIOUSLY!?! YES!!)

My own version of this darling wooden door mat:
Along with myself, Cristina also asked three other fabulous bloggers to do their own versions as well:
On March 21st we will be revealing our projects!  (Mark your calendars!!)

And the best part?  If you like this project, it will be COMING TO A HOME DEPOT NEAR YOU

The Wooden Door Mat workshop will be held on:
March 26th
10:00 to 11:00 am
Stop by next Monday to get lots of inspiration from the virtual party.
Register to create the wooden door mat right HERE.
Share your very own project throughout your social media channels using
  #DIYworkshop.

I’d love to see your projects so don’t forget to tag me or send me a photo! I’ll feature them on my Facebook page.  The whole project costs less than $20 and the tools to make it are super straight forward! So no excuses!
So don’t forget to come back on March 21st to see my version and get fired up.. so that on Saturday you can build your own doormat!

IT IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!

Pottery Barn Inspired Gold Glittered Easter Banner

I thought it was about time to decorate my mantel for Easter and so I was on the hunt for inspiration on the internet.  I found this cute banner on Pinterest and immediately fell in love with it.

You can find the original at Pottery Barn for $20, but there was really nothing to it.  It was only made of cardstock and glitter.. I was pretty sure I could come up with my own version, and that is just what I did.

Here is mine (which I think I nailed:)

Ultimate Recipe Challenge: Slow Cooker Cheesy Ham and Potato Gratin

Cheesy slow cooker ham and potoato casserole
Today I’m introducing a fun new challenge that I have started and recruited about 100 other bloggers to join me.  It is a bi-monthly recipe challenge where I challenge us all to come up with a recipe using a specific ingredient or technique (think “Chopped” but a lot easier.)  It will be held on the second Wednesday of every other month.. and we're calling it the “Ultimate Recipe Challenge”

This month’s theme ingredient (since it is March.. and in honor of St. Patrick’s Day) is:  POTATOES

White, red, sweet, fingerling, yukon gold or even powdered mashed.. ANY potato counted.  Plus the dish could be sweet or savory, a entree or a side.. Heck, even a dessert!   But there had to be potatoes in it somewhere.

My submission for this challenge was:

Slow Cooker Cheesy Ham and Potato Gratin

Slow cooker ham and potatoes

Slow Cooker Coconut Curry Chicken over Quinoa

Tracking PixelSlow Cooker Coconut Curry Chicken
I am not sure why I rarely think to make curry in the crock pot.  It is the perfect dish for that slow low cooking, since it gives all the flavors plenty of time to meld together in the slow cooker.  During the busy work week, it is a great alternative to take out.

Today’s recipe is a super quick and easy Coconut Curry recipe made in the slow cooker and I have once again teamed up with my favorite brand of Organic chicken, Foster Farms, to show you just how easy it is to get a great home cooked meal on the table without too much effort.

Applique Easter Egg Pillow Tutorial

Easter Egg Pillow TutorialHi everyone! It’s Pam from Leaves and Stitches. Have you started decorating for Easter yet? I have to admit, my house is a complete mishmash right now. I still have a winter wreath on the front door, Valentine's day runner on my dining room table, a few Easter decorations scattered around and I've been working on a couple little projects for St. Patrick's day. When Easter falls this early in the spring, it gets a little confusing!

Having said that, my favorite recent projects is this set of Easter pillow covers. They're so bright and cheerful! I'm sharing the tutorial for the Easter Egg version below. If you'd like to make the coordinating bunny butt (as my son calls it) version, head on over to this post for the pattern.

20 Creatures You Can Craft from K-Cups

A great way to upcycle old KCups. 20 Unique Ideas for creatures you can craft out of coffee pods. Great for kids!

Anyone who has read this blog for more than 5 minutes (or who follows me pretty much anywhere on social media) knows how much I LOVE my coffee.  More specifically, they know how much I love my Keurig.. but that also means they know how guilty I feel about the waste those little K-Cups create.   In fact, I just recently shared an article about how some countries are BANNING K-Cups until they can be made recyclable.

I've always tried to focus on projects that upcycle or repurpose my KCups, and it appears I'm not the only one.  I found TWENTY projects where someone used KCups to create crafty critters and I'm sharing them with you.

From snakes and snowmen, to whales and robots.. these creative ideas are a fun way to reuse those unrecyclable plastic cups and would be great craft ideas for kids.

Enjoy!
