Fall is popping up everywhere lately, and I am loving it. It’s one of my favorite seasons to decorate for, and I love when the air starts to get a bit cooler so I can break out my boots and scarves.

To get ready for fall, I have an easy, low-cost fall DIY to share today: make jack-o-lanterns from old glass jars!

Make these cute jack-o-lanterns from old pickle jars with some orange spray paint. What a fun Halloween craft!

A Child's Jewelry Box Grows Up

Jewelry Box Makeover
I’m so excited for this month’s power tool challenge.  The theme this month was “MODIFY” and we were supposed to take an existing piece and change it.   That is right up my alley.

125+ Painting and Stenciling Project Ideas

125 Different painted and stenciled project ideas
If you have read this blog for more than 5 minutes, you already know that I am sorta a sucker for painting and stenciling projects.  Furniture, rooms, fabrics, crafts.. If it isn't nailed to floor or has a pulse, chances are I want to paint it.

5th Anniversary (Gift of Wood) Gift Ideas

5th anniversary gift of wood ideas

If you are a follower of anniversary etiquette, you probably know there are traditional gift idea for every year you celebrate of marriage.  And while some years gift ideas are obvious (gold, ruby, pearls and flowers) other years it may be more difficult to find the perfect gift.

A fifth anniversary is one of those occasions.  While silverware is suggested as the modern annual gift, I personally don't think that is the most romantic gift idea, and not very meaningful.  On the other hand, the traditional 5th year anniversary gift suggestion is "wood" which allows for much more creative and personal gift ideas.

10 Tips to Create a Child Safe Laundry Room

Childproofing laundry room tipsFor the month of September, which is also Baby Safety Month, I am partnering with the American Cleaning Institute (ACI) to help spread the word about laundry room safety.

Because they are not as regularly used as say bathrooms or kitchens, parents often overlook things that could be unsafe to children in the laundry room.  Luckily it doesn’t take much to childproof your laundry space and prevent accidents from happening.

How to Customize A Lampshade with Paint

Customize a Lamp Shade with Paint
I recently found this black lamp at a thrift store for $3.  I had originally thought of spray painting it a bright and funky color but decided against it.  Instead I thought I would leave the base alone and add the personality to the lamp in the shade itself.

Black and Gold Thrift Store Chair Makeover

Black and gold thrift store chair makeover
I’ve been hanging out at the thrift store again, and so today’s project is another inexpensive furniture makeover.  This time, was this reddish desk chair with a nasty microfiber seat.  It isn’t an old piece, in fact, it probably came from a big box store, but it was solid wood and I liked the lines.  Especially the cutout in the back.Thrift store desk chair before makeoverPlus, you couldn’t beat the three dollar price tag! 3 dollar thrift store chair makeoverIt was an ugly fake reddish color and the seat was a MESS!  But i knew it could be easily salvaged!Dirty uphsoltered chair seat

Beef and Bean Goulash Recipe

If you've been a reader of my blog The Kitchen Wife you'll know that I've been working really hard at trying to clean up my eating.  HOWEVER, I'm married to the King of Carnivores who feels that there should be nothing but meat and potatoes on the table at every meal.  So I've been trying to take many of our family favorites and make them a little healthier.  Take my Beef and Bean Goulash for Example.

A plate of the Beef and Bean Goulash with the pan sitting beside it.

By making few tweaks, I will still have all of the great beef flavor without all of the excess fat.  It was delicious and I can't wait to share it with you so....

Let's Get Started!

Wine Bottle Gift Bag Tutorial

Hi everyone! It's Pam from Clever Little Mouse (formerly Leaves & Stitches - I'm halfway through a rebrand and have been up to my eyeballs in Wordpress edits for the past few weeks) with a quick tutorial for a wine bottle gift bag.

Drawstring Wine Bottle Gift Bag Tutorial

I'd love to say this project was inspired by a housewarming gift or some fancy occasion, but to be honest, the idea came to me while my son and I were struggling our way through his geometry homework recently. One of the problems dealt with the formula for finding the circumference of a circle when you already know the diameter, and a lightbulb went off. So THAT'S how you do that! I felt a little dumb. And then I had all kinds of ideas for projects now that I know how easy it is to figure out the dimensions, so off I went to test the formula.
