Sweet Treats Decoden Candy Jar

Decoden Candy JarToday's post is brought to you by Mod Podge (since I really love Mod Podge!)

Originally popular in Japan, a fun new trend that is becoming catching on in North America right now is Decoden, or the art of decorating with trinkets.  Definitely over the top and full of glitter and sparkles, it is way to ‘bling out’ even the most benign household products.  And now, thanks to Mod Podge Collage Clay you are now able to make your own decoden projects at home.

Here are some examples of typical Decoden projects:

Because deocoden frequently reflects super-realistic candy, confections and frosting, I decided I would add a decoden touch to a candy jar.

Here are some of the supplies I started out with (All of these can be found at Michael’s stores).

I started with Mod Melts (colored plastic like material that you can melt in a mini glue gun) which go into Mod Molds (the one I used had a sweets/candy theme):

When the Mod Melts solidify you can pop out your perfect little embellishments:

Next I used craft paint to paint and Collage Drizzle Paint to make the embellishments even more realistic:

Here are the final little confections (remember, most of these are about the size of dime):

Once they were dry I used Collage Clay (a lightweight whipped clay that comes in a squeeze tube with different types of piping tips to give you the look of different types of frosting) to apply them to the lid of my cookie jar:

Around the outside of the rim I used two colors of collage clay instead of adding more embellishments (I didn’t want them to be in the way when you tried to unscrew the jar lid):

Then all you have to do is let it dry:

The final product is adorable.

And even though they are teenie-tiny, the trinkets look good enough to eat:Decoden
