Easy Baseball Cupcakes.. SERIOUSLY Easy

One of our family pastimes in the summer is good All-American baseball. We not only love to attend some pro and semi-pro games in our area,

but also both of the girls play softball and/or t-ball during the late spring and early summer.

So this year when my 7 year old had a season wrap-up party and I was assigned a dessert to bring, I  HAD to make little baseball cupcakes. The problem was I had a 3 week old at the time, and there was no way I could dedicate a lot of time to whipping something up from scratch.

Enter Pillsbury. I was able to find a red and white cake mix, white frosting and a Wilton Icing Writer in bright red. Except for the baking and actual decorating, everything was done for me.

I quickly baked up 2 dozen cupcakes

I simply frosted them in white, and then added the red stitching lines

The frosting writer made it easy since I didn't even have to drag out my food color or piping bags. The stitches were just two arches with little carrots(?) running along them?

I stacked them on my cupcake display tower, and ta-dah! Less than 30 minutes worth of work, and about $6 in supplies, I had some pretty custom looking cupcakes!

Let's PLAY BALL!!

Fourth of July Mantle 2013

In our family it doesn't feel like summer until the 4th of July, so now that I finally have our mantle decked out in red, white and blue, the summer can officially begin!

My cute little flag centerpiece I featured in my last post, took center stage.

Although it would be darling on a table at a summer picnic, it also looks great up on the mantle.

A couple of wooden stars I found at goodwill for $1 each, painted red white and blue:

Two Dollar Store buntings along the bottom of the mantle:

And a couple of IKEA lanterns in red and white:

Believe it or not, this little afghan a baby gift to me when I was born (since I am a bicentennial baby born in '76)! I draped on an antique children's chair to take up the empty space on the hearth:

Once again, it doesn't take a lot to bring out the patriotic spirit:

Happy Fourth of July!!
God Bless America!

American Flag Centerpiece

As I was gathering up all my patriotic accessories for this year's fourth of July mantle, I stumbled upon a bunch of this little American Flags which I thought would make a darling centerpiece for a summer barbeque.

The problem was they wouldn't stand up nicely in an empty glass vase I wanted to use.
Enter, my patriotic beans!

Just like last Memorial day, I layered navy beans, kidney beans and black beans to give me the red, white and blue vase filler I needed!

Stayed tuned for my finished mantle reveal coming up soon!  These cute little flags will make another appearance!

Damn you Google!!! I don't handle change well!

Since I only *just* realized that Google Reader is going away, I am scurrying to figure out what I am going to do to keep up with all the blogs I love to read, and to make my blog as accessible as possible.

First they mess around with Google Friend Connect, and now they are messing with my reader.
Sigh.. The techies at Google need to understand I am a creature of habit.  I don't handle change very well!

I am updating some options in my sidebar, including Feedly and Bloglovin.  Hopefully it all works.

Your latest options:

Welcome Baby Joshua! (I return to the blogosphere!)

I am officially ending my blogging "maternity leave."  It has been 6 weeks since my last post and in that time there has been some big changes in the Six household.
My Mother's Day Gift This Year
On April 28th we welcomed our third child, and first boy, into the family.  Joshua Daniel was born at 4:56 pm weighing in at 7 lbs 8 oz, 19.5 inches.

After a long and eventful pregnancy, the labor and delivery was no sweat.

He has been a super baby, but life with three kids is still chaos.

Luckily, the girls have been great with him and he is settling into the family.

Although I am not sure my blog will be updated as frequently as it has been in the past, I do have a bunch of projects lined up in the coming months which I can't wait to share.

In August I also will be attending Haven, my first ever blog conference! (A cross country trip with just myself and 3 kids will be a life-altering experience in itself!) I am really looking forward to it, and hope it helps me re-connect to the rest of the blogging community since I feel a little disconnected after being 'gone' for so long.

But for now.. life with a newborn, pre-schooler and second grader are nothing if not unpredictable. It can be a huge headache, but it also can be tons of fun!
